Nothing threatening, it's just labour intensive, expensive and pointless

Would that REALLY be the case though, Larry?

The regional idents are already made, allbeit only a couple per region at present.

The commercials are already split across the different servers at LNN for the different regions.

Why not make EVERY ident a regional one?

So long as the same length one is played out to all the regions, the common announcer simply talks over the same music in all regions, but different, LOCAL pictures.

To me, it seems like a good and FAIRLY cheap way of looking more local without too much effort.

Idea Exactly. Agreed.

After all, under the "cluttered/unfinished set" ITV1 idents, a Carlton Central pan-regional programme (e.g. Heart of the Country) would often be preceeded by sub -regional idents! (WMids would see Bob Warman standing about, EMids would see Marie Ashby, SMids saw Wesley Smith), but with a pan-regional announcement! (of course, all midlanders saw Bob Warman on Sky Digital!)

If they could manage this, then why not what Nick's suggesting?

But what would be the point?

There's no point in having 16 or so diffrent idents going out for the same programme with the same announcements. The only diffrence is the graphic with the area of the country on.... and I'm sure there aren't many people watching that don't know what part of the country they're in!

Good idea Nick - exactly what I suggested back on page 8 Laughing :

Aston posted:
I reckon they should use variations of these idents all the time for ALL continuity. It wouldn't be hard to play out multiple idents at once if all transmission is form LNN, you'd just use the same sound source for them all.

That would make it seem much more regional with little effort at all (apart from filming the idents) on behalf of ITV...

The only point, Larry, would be in order to make the network APPEAR a little more regional and local.

Agreed, the majority out there probably wouldn't notice, but IF ITV really DID want to appear to be continuing its regional commitment, then that seemed to me to be a fairly easy way to do it.

Agreed that it all hinges on the "IF".

And (grin), also agreed that it was originally a (c) Aston, page 8, idea!
