Channel 4 Text relaunches 30th September

Don't know if this has been mentioned as I have been on holiday.

On p.139 of Teletext yesterday there was a page titled Teletext on 4, with the 4 logo in the right hand corner.

This morning it seems to have disappeared. Anyone shed any light on this?

Any more info? What else did the page say? And surely the Channel 4 logo wasn't on the page? Are you having us on?

In 1993, pg100 said "Teletext on 4" or "Teletext on 3" at the top of the screen.

It said Teletext on 4, and it had like a load of page numbers on it for T4, E4, Filmfour etc. I have no TV Card, so I am therefore unable to capture anything.

I seem to remember reading somewhere a while back that Teletext Ltd were taking over the Channel 4 teletext service (the one which runs from p300 and is currently produced by Intelfax).

But page 300 only recently changed to read Fourtext instead of 4-Tel. Seems odd to do that if they were only going to change it a few months later! But that's a good guess - a test page for the new ancillary service. I wonder if similar things will happen to ITV and Five?

Speaking of Teletext - why do Sky viewers have to switch to analogue to get Teletext Ltd's service? Sky's feud with ITV is long since over, so there's no reason for them not to launch their service in competition to SkyText and BBCi!

Now and Next on Teletext was down at 9.25am this morning. Not sure if it's been fixed yet.

Ah, the EPG of yesteryear...

I posted a while back about Teletext taking over 4-Tel and revamping it's C4 service to include News and Sport.

Teletext hold the Channel 3 teletext service licence. It is the teletext service which broadcasts on ITV, it is NOT ITV's teletext service.

And anyway, it's not in Sky because the Channel 3 (and Channel 4) teletext licences only permit analogue terrestrial transmission. The old Channel 5 licence for Sky's 5 text service which ended at the end of 2001 did permit transmission on other platforms, but the new one (held by Teletext) does not.

What does surprise me about ITV, is that their ancillary services don't appear, whereas C4's and C5's do.

It's sad the name 4-Tel is leaving us good and proper this year. It would have been their 20th year in transmission. A service I loved although the 1990 Broadcasting Act killed it when it was decided that it could only display programme information related to the channel only.

Well I don't know how it works for Sky, but for some reason us NTL Digital viewers can't get our ITV Ancillary Text service and we always haven't been able to, we used to be able to get 4 Tel on Channel Four, but then that disappeared about two years ago, then for some reason you can now see 4 Tel in E4! (In the early days for some reason you got Film Four Text on E4) We were also able to get Channel 5's ancillary until then end of 2001 I believe, but now I can only see this on analogue. But I thought that Channel Four's deal with Teletext doesn't come into force until early next year? Unless they were doing what Oracle did, which was putting an ancillary test page on P1-- something in the last days of 1992.

Page 194. I can fail an exam but I still remember the unique ORACLE pages! Test page on 333 as well. I wonder if you can still press REVEAL on 4-Tel and get today's date and the time of the next programme at the bottom of the page?

Also, did you know (pointless by the way!) that Westcountry was the first ITV ancilliary text service to go live.
