How annoying for the contestants who appeared in those episodes to have to go without seeing themselves on the show or possibly not receiving the prizes they potentially won as the episode has not been broadcast, unless an exception has been made in this instance.

No broadcaster promises to broadcast anything (unless you're paying them money to show your adverts that is!)
Even if you apply to a show the first thing it says is the production proposes (not promises) to make the show at all, and I dare say there's no guarantee it'll get aired either.

No end of examples down the years where something's been made featuring Joe Public and it was then never seen for one reason or another. The most high profile example is probably Shafted. 16 episodes were never seen, although the show didn't rate particularly well after four episodes and was pulled. Press Ganged was made in 2003 I think it was and for some reason that was never disclosed the show never went to air at all.

And ITV made 'My Man Can' a German format for peak time Saturday night - that couldn't be salavaged in the edit - so was dropped after the full run of 6 shows were recorded.

The real question is what is wrong with these specific three episodes? Are they of terrible quality?

I don't think it is much more than they've been left on the shelf and newer episodes pushed them to the back.

Well considering they aired in Australia they can't be "terrible quality", otherwise they wouldn't have sent them out.
If there was a problem with one of the contestants in the episodes presumably they wouldn't have gone out down under either.
Apparently the contestants/teams were trailed on the Facebook page according to a Wiki discussion page.

There is probably nothing "wrong" with the episodes and it's almost certainly a deliberate decision by Channel 4 not to show them. Why will be anybody's guess. Its far more likely they'll just turn up one day on somewhere like Challenge.

I contacted Channel 4 two months ago about why these episodes have not been shown. I got the response yesterday and here is what they said:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting Channel 4 Viewer Enquiries regarding The Crystal Maze.

We are glad to read of your interest in particular episodes of this programme. We would advise that there are no plans to show these episodes, however your interest has been noted and logged for the attention of those responsible for the programme.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us here at Channel 4 and for your interest in our programming.

Yeah that's your stock "no plans" reply. As was said earlier in the thread, its probably a deliberate decision not to show them and we may never know why. When (or if) Challenge pick them up will be your best bet on seeing them. Or move to Australia and wait for a repeat. Your choice.

With The Crystal Maze disappearing off Sky and NowTV in 3 days, I wonder if it's being lined up for Britbox?

If so, I would hazard that will be the first we see of these episodes. Britbox is probably the one chance of another series, although that seems a pretty remote possibility at this stage.

This revival really didn’t work out as well as they had hoped. 20 episodes to start was way too much, and I don’t think Richard was a great host in the end. If they’d been able to keep Stephen Merchant then maybe it would’ve been better.

I thought Richard had been really well received as host?

I thought he was far superior to Stephen Merchant.
