A desperate attempt now to boost ratings: ( from http://www.digitalspy.co.uk )

Quote:
EastEnders producers are bringing in a new controversial family to try and boost flagging ratings, The Sun claims today.

The new clan are related to wheeler-dealer Mickey Miller (Joe Swash) and are said to be so "low-life" that they "make the Slaters look like royalty."

Among those moving into the Square are Mickey's mum, dad and younger brother, as well as his 13-year-old sister, who is seven months pregnant.

"They are a real bunch of scruffs," a source told the newspaper. "They arrive with a flea-bitten Irish wolfhound in a battered old ice cream van driven by Mickey. The first out of the van is the pregnant 13-year-old and within minutes she is the talk of the Queen Vic."

The Millers will be seen on screens from September.

No problem in them bringing in Mickey's family, but the 7 months pregnant 13-yr old is another example of rushed storylines. EE writers are not willing to see her go through the full 9 months, and knowing EE, this baby will be born, engaged, engaged to another man, married and divorced within it's first year - and also be looked after by the phantom babysitter everynight when the family are down the Vic.

A turning point in the EastEnders crisis?

EastEnder's Vicki to leave Square

EastEnders actress Scarlett Johnson is to quit the soap after two years playing wild teenager Vicki Fowler.

Johnson, 19, had never done any TV work when she won a part in the BBC1 series.

But her character Vicki - daughter of Michelle Fowler and "Dirty" Den Watts - has been popular with EastEnders' fans.

Her decision to leave marks another blow for the soap, whose ratings recently slumped to a record low of 6.4 million. While Walford's storylines have been criticised for being too gloomy, the stars' personal lives have been hitting the headlines.

Leslie Grantham, who plays Vicki's father, was suspended for criticising co-stars and taking part in internet sex sessions.

Elaine Lordan (Lynne Hobbs) was dogged by reports of boozy antics but denied being sacked over feuds and drinking. Pregnant star Jessie Wallace (Kat Moon) is taking time off following a health scare, and was reported to have had an on-set bust-up with co-star Barbara Windsor.

Johnson, who joined the soap 16 months ago, will film her final scenes in October before her departure from Albert Square at the end of this year.

The star's storylines have included discovering that her father was alive, finding long-lost half-brother Dennis, and attempting to stop his affair with adoptive sister Sharon Watts.

She said: "I've had a really good two years, enjoyed all the experiences, but it's time to move on."

An EastEnders spokesman said: "We'd like to thank Scarlett for all her fantastic work over the last two years and wish her the very best of luck for the future."

I've stopped watching EE now, although I'm sure some people might mourn the loss of Vicki Fowler.

Has to be the ideal opportunity to persuade Sue Tully to come back for a few episodes and bring Vicki back to Florida on a one-way ticket... Smile

You lot are being a bit harsh. Ok, EE isn't high drama, but it is strangely compelling to watch. Infinitely more so than c**p like Big Brother and Celebrity anything.

Or there's the thought of Vicki, Spencer and Adi dying when a Ferreira cab has a nasty crash... the possibilities are endless Smile

Damn and blast.

I have to admit, the programme was good tonight. It seems that the new cafe woman is actually a likeable character. I found the scenes with her and her bed-ridden husband quite moving.

Nice stuff with Andy ("ehh... its business ") and Pat, too.

The new family, The Millers, arrive from September 6th.

Spoilers:

The residents of Walford are immediately wary when the new residents at No. 27, the Millers, burst on to the Square in their battered removal van.The move is far from calm and Mickey tries to control his unruly rabble of a family as they unpack amidst noise and chaos.

Teenage twins, Darren and Demi, quickly run off to discover their new surroundings as dad Keith settles himself in his armchair and supervises the move. Mum Rosie is left to sort things out and matters are made worse with Irish Wolfhound Genghis under her feet. Before long, the kids have created mischief in the market and Rosie becomes convinced that Keith’s charms have attracted the attention of the Square’s ladies.

EE is improving slightly - the Millers are generally welcome as when they are on screen, other characters are not - although EE's credibility is so low any storyline is seen as an attempt to grab ratings rather than a development of a storyline or character.

Tonight's episode was also quite different - all set around people going to bed - and it showed clearly they need to get rid of Kat and Alfie. Shane Richie isn't a serious actor, and their time on screen really dragged compared to the others.

I found tonight's episode quite entertaining, especially Sam and Andy, Sharon and Dennis. Found Martin and Sonia a bit boring. It's nice they did something different, with everybody in bed, (talking, that's all!)

Miles ahead of corrie at the moment, I'm sorry to say.

Their time on screen probably "dragged compared to the others" because they had the poorer script.

The writers were shamelessly bringing dead issues from the past (such as her affair with Andy) in order to create atificial tension between the two with the supposed intention of paving the way for Kat's temporary departure.

Although tonights episode showed signs of improvement and some originality, it's way behind Corrie.

The scenes with Karen and Tracy on the Street over the past week have been Corrie at it's best!
