Every single programme - even the flagship shows like the News and Millionnaire - carry the same 'floating hearts' generic ITV1 backdrop and it's TERRIBLE! Firstly, you can't read the credits, and secondly, it takes away any individuality from any programme! Crossroads and Emmerdale have fallen victim to it, and as for Night and Day, I've never even seen the 'real' credits or know if they bothered making any!
What does anyone else think? Scrap it? Please agree!

Yes this has been brought up in the forum a lot recently. What I would like to know is what happens when the shows get repeated on another channel, they can't show the genric ITV1 credits, can they? would they?!
What I find funny is that these credits, which are being used with such enthusiasm, are in the hearts design, which has already been scrapped by ITV.
What I'd like to know is, what are they going to do with all these programmes when the inevitable redesign of the itv1 look comes in sometime in the next year or so. Redo all those credits?
Why they couldn't have just used a more generic design is beyond me. But then logic and itv don't seem to be easy bedfellows these days

Don't get me wrong, I think ITV1 is a quality channel in general, I just find certain aspects of it somewhat frustrating.

Not another 'I hate Such and such on ITV1' thread, the anti-ITV1 attitudes on this forum is getting very boring
I agree with you Andrew. ITV1 bashing is rife on this forum, by many of the BBC snobs that frequent this forum. Good to see that ITV1 has been beating the pants off BBC One in the ratings since after Christmas with some really good programmes.
I think ITV1 has the potential to be a quality channel, like it used to be. This can only happen when someone has the b***s to say
'ITV1 is a national broadcaster, providing a national and regional news service and occasional programming for a particular area that may or may not be shown in other areas either simultaneously or at some other time.'
instead of'
'ITV is a federation of regional broadcasters..blah blah'
At the moment it's neither one thing or the other.
On a related note, does anyone know if The Simpsons has ECPs on Fox in America, and we get the 'international' version? I'm asking because I once saw an episode (not aired in the UK but on Thailand's UBC Series) that appeared to have generic credits at the end. It was the one with N-Sync on it as guest stars. It was the standard US generic credits style, quite like ITV's but without the wavy lines. On the main part of the screen were clips of the boy band recording their lines along with various clips from the show. It looked very weird, the channel normally uses the same yellow-on-black credits that we get here. So was it a one-off or is that the way it always goes out in the States?

Umm, probably not. Doesn't sound like generic 'Simpsons' fare to me. Yeah, probably a one-off, but not having seen the episode, I can't say for sure.
When the first generic idents were made (in the us?) it was because viewers were annoyed by pushing/squashing of the pictures, this is also the reason why 4 decided to left align the credits (they probablly knew that people wouldn't like generic credits.)
I hate generic credits, I hate ECPs. All programmes are made with their own set of credits- let us see them and the ECPs are so annoying! We don't need them when we have EPGs and TV Guides.
