They could have separate channels for sport like Sky. I believe ITV did in the past. Failing that, ITV1 could have moved it to ITV4 instead. It was only a friendly match anyway so it didn't count towards anything.

ITV did but was pay per view, ITV have signed up all England matches to show on a free to view basis so it wouldn't work on an ITV Sport Channel and I think the problems that had they wouldn't try to start that up again. Last week the England v Germany had 6.17 million watching on ITV compared to 4.45m watching The Voice UK on BBC One, the week before ITV only had 2.82 million watching You're Back in the Room so ITV were right to have the football on ITV instead of ITV4. ITV want to get bigger ratings and get big advertising even only for a friendly match therefore it will always be on ITV rather than ITV4 even though ITV4 is available now to everyone in the UK.

Why would any Football fans even want to watch the match anyway when it was only a friendly and didn't count towards anything?

Why shouldn't they? Ask a football fan why , if you must know, but the fact is they do. And
broadcasters have a remit and/or motive to accommodate them.

This seems relevant (although the radio version was better)

I agree completely mate, it is selfish for a vocal minority to complain a show has been moved for one week for football when shows like Ant and Dec, X Factor etc are on for months on end. 6.17 million watched the football last Saturday on ITV over 4 million more than watched You're Back in the Room the Saturday before. I am not an England fan, I support Northern Ireland but I watched it as I like to see England do well. Dalek's head might explode when the Euros start in June with football on nearly every night on BBC or ITV for a month.

Maybe You're Back In The Room was on, but it had such an affect on Dalek that he thinks he missed it?

Then don't make it pay per view?

Putting it on ITV4 would benefit everyone though: those who don't like football and those who do.

Why shouldn't they?

Because it wasn't an important match.

If only TV was that viewer oriented! It doesn't benefit ITV and its advertisers to put it on the smaller channel.

ITV got 6.11 million for Germany v England and 5.88 million for England v Netherlands on ITV on Saturday and Tuesday, so it was undoubtedly a success for them if it was on ITV4 you would get 1 to 2 million. ITV are showing at least 2 England games in Euro 2016 and show all England Qualifiers so they are the home of the England National Team so whilst I agree friendlies are not as important as competitive matches it is important ITV show the progression from friendlies to important matches. Plus at the minute ITV don't have much live football on their main channel after the loss of live Champions League & Europa League to BT Sport so they will want to show their England live on ITV regardless of it being a friendly.

Because it wasn't an important match.

Irrelevant, and subjective. It's important to broadcasters because people want to watch it. Perhaps you'd prefer a system where viewers must submit adequate logical reasons for wanting to watch a particular match before it can be broadcast.
