Failed 7am opener this morning - titles (Date/ ITV Studios etc) failed to play. Instead got a camera shot from next to the sofas with Ben & Kate walking to the desk.

Interesting Twitter thread where Erron appears to confirm a new set come the move to TVC from TLS:

Also earlier confirms no refresh or changes in September.

Will be very disorientating to see a shot of Television Centre with the voiceover 'live from ITV Studios'.

(Also I don't think he's confirming a new set there is he? Just saying they'll be in a new studio in a new building)

He goes onto agree the only thing that needs changing is the Titles (absence of ITV tower)

I agree, it'll look very strange and confusing even to the Joe public who recognise the building as tvc

That's very possibly the case however the way I read it I thought it suggested a whole new set. I'm not sure how much sense it would make to dismantle the current standing set and re-erect it in another place. I guess it is only 4 years old though come April.

I read it that they'll continue to use the current opener, as that plot of land next to the south bank will continue to be itv studios (even if they're knocking the bulk of it down). There's no reason why they'd use a shot of Television Centre if they don't want to, most viewers don't care what building a show comes from. There's no reason why they shouldn't change their titles too and ditch the whole idea.

Really it's only in very recent years itv have made a thing of the London Television Centre, it was rarely seen on screen as far as I can recall (unlike BBC Television Centre which was often used on air, esepecially on children's programmes.

They don't have to have a shot of Television Centre - they can just have a generic shot of London with the voice over.

Or just shots of Britain??

Embarrassing 7am opener which ended with Piers in the middle of the headlines saying: "Tell you what this is all going horribly wrong so why don't you can it and we'll go sit down".

I think they'd be wise to retain the existing set. Things seem to be going quite well at the moment and the last thing needed is a radical change.

I guess a lot will depend on whether the set in TC2/TC3 will need to be struck full or partially, either at weekends or potentially even daily. It probably depends on who/what else apart from GMB will be using the studio on a daily/weekly basis.

It was seen on screen a lot in the 70's and 80's:
