I wonder what will happen when we get to Alan Bradley’s “Come Back here, you stupid bitch” in the Blackpool episodes?

They'll just dub the same "tart" over it Wink

One thing I notice is that Sandra does shout the word ‘tart’ at the end of the scene, but for whatever reason this wasn’t used when re-dubbing, and may have sounded better.

I think it is the same "tart", but slowed down to match pitch with the first sentence.

Yeah, it's the same tart. How resourceful. Very Happy

That randomly loud "TART!!" is so funny. The poor person censoring that, trying to be as subtle as possible and has ended up doing the complete oppsoite.

Or another random word Alan shouts in the episode. “Come back here, you stupid wardrobe!”

When GOLD repeated BBC1 soap Eldorado they dubbed out several instances of "b*stard" and "bitch" with silence.

Yet GOLD, and the various other UKTV channels, to this day still show the completely uncensored Fawlty Towers episode with Major Gowen's "w**s" and "n*****s", even pre-watershed, although it has a caption over the opening titles to the effect of "this episode contains outdated language".

I think that probably come down to context. It's a while since I've seen that episode of Fawlty Towers, but I think the context is laughing at the major being out of touch.

I saw the ITV3 edit in the 6am repeat, I missed it when I watched the episode yesterday. Seems odd that ITV3 are editing episodes. Im sure last week (itv3 time) a scene between Alan and Rita was edited when she confronted him about his affair with Carole Burns. In the Rita timelife video they included this scene and she says to Alan "all this crap about holding back" which wasn't shown in the ITV3 episode. Is the Granada plus version on you tube?

It's not just the major... Polly also calls Manuel a "dago dodo" which I don't think would get cleared these days.

As for the ITV3 dubbing, as hilarious as it is, I don't see what's wrong with a good old fashioned beep.

Simply muting it with background noise from elsewhere in the scene would have been much less intrusive.

Interesting watching the ITV3 episode too that even at the end of 1988, the endcap at the end of the episode changes between electronic and physical caption from episode to episode (and some examples that look like a physical card electronically coloured). I'm wondering if the physical endcaps were still appearing until the generic look came in- we'll see soon anyway. There's still some physical End Of Part One/Part Two captions too (from what I remember from the Granada Plus repeats, they stopped at the end of 1988), suprised they were still using them so late.

I mentioned earlier in the thread that the episode shown on 21st Dec 1988 - a memorable date for more poignant reasons - had a caption within the end credits showing a photo of Deirdre and text stating the next episode would be Christmas Day at 7.15. I think this was shown after the final credit and before the Granada endcap, and did not appear to have generated live.

This episode will be the first of this Tuesday’s ITV3 episodes - I wonder if there will be any obvious signs of a re-edit?
