How is Piers right-wing?

Hmm...his leanings towards a certain American megalomaniac and his opinions are that of the right.

In any case, conservative presenters have always added ratings, especially in America.

I'd say Piers just leans whichever way gets him noticed.

An interview doing the rounds today with Susanna which sums it up - Breakfast is a nice cup of tea in the morning, GMB is a double espresso. Both have their appeal.

Breakfast though is stuck in a rutt and though it is an obvious stick to beat it with you do have to wonder whether being away from the rest of BBC News is actually harming it. A refresh isn't just about making things look nice or catching up with GMB, the show needs to be a product the on air staff are proud of in all regards and I think it would just give the show a bit of energy back.

Thing is though, is it stuck in a rut or does the audience quite happy with it and finds it comfortable? It's not to my taste, but ironically for a show which is some distance away it does feel very middle England friendly.

I don't believe Piers is left or right wing, to be honest. He has a range of views which are on both sides. Someone summed up Piers very well some months back - that he's a tabloid journo at heart who loves a bit of mischief and controversy. Rather than being terrified at the state of the world he just sees amazing stories and opportunity. In fairness, I used to be like that a decade ago (I got older and wiser/duller) so I can see where it comes from. He is his own hype man and it's up to everyone whether they buy into it or not.

As it stands though, as far as the UK goes it seems to prefer a comfort blanket to a party.

The most well said thing - ever! That should be post of the week. Personally I’m a double espresso person

Breakfast’s main problem is it’s presenters. Dan Walker is very much out of his depth with harder news or political stories and the main role should have gone to Charlie Stay. It’s interesting or maybe coincidence that whenever a major political event occurs, Dan is absent and Charlie is drafted in. I used to like Louise but find her constant “morning” to the sports, weather and business presenters rather tiresome.

As far as presentation is concerned it’s new titles and small set do not help. I’m not anti north but it’s a programme that should come from London.

In all honesty, the majority who watch both breakfast shows will dip in for a few minutes a day. It's only anoraks and Digital Spy oddballs who have the time to spend more than 5 minutes watching them to form an opinion.

The weekend editions however are more likely to be watched for a longer length, which is reflected in the NC's ratings for the show, alas why there's a longer form newspaper review for example. Sunday however seems to be pot luck, you'll either get an experienced presenter with the format, a newbie who can also perform well or it's wooden delivery central.

As for Breakfast, it does feel as if it's plodding on at the moment. The pairing of Naga and Steph earlier in the week didn't work for me, .

Those two are a destructive pairing, the programme slips into 6th Form style farce when they co present. They are both far better when paired with others

The problem with Naga is she thinks it’s funny but actually the other presenter finds it cringeworthy along with the viewers making it awkward live tv, moving the show to Salford meant their main presenters disappeared or defected to a rival channel, I would take that show down to NBH where it can be presented in a much better set and give the current set to North West Tonight which makes better use of it anyway.

Mr Tumble must have been busy.

That's harsh. Krish Guru-Murthy, Julie Etchingham and Chris Rogers have all transitioned from Newsround to mainstream news.

What I've seen of Ricky (admittedly not much) gives me nothing to believe he wouldn't be able to tailor his delivery style to a mainstream audience.

I suppose that you’re more likely to make such statements when you feel the need to post as often as Brekkie does.
