What I've seen of Ricky (admittedly not much) gives me nothing to believe he wouldn't be able to tailor his delivery style to a mainstream audience.
It's worth adding Matthew Price, Lizo Mzimba and Adam Fleming to the roster of Newsround presenters who have gone on to mainstream reporting (in Matthew Price's case, occasional News Channel presenting) and Jake Humphrey who went on to sports presenting.

I just mentioned some of the more high profile examples, but looking at the list of former presenters on Wikipedia there are very few names who haven't moved on to mainstream broadcasting.

We don't credit the NR reporters enough. It takes another skills set to convey the news, which at times can be very distressing to an audience of 6-12 year olds in a way that doesn't patronise.

In the early days they used network news reporters, who would do a seperate package for Newsround. A lot of them apparently were happy to do so as it meant their kids would see them on the telly.

I swear only JK Rowling and Daniel Ratcliffe made more money than Lizo Mzimba out of Harry Potter - he basically built a career out of it. Juliet Morris also jumped from Newsround to Breakfast News in the late nineties - a time when flippant comments were taken far less seriously.

In Lizo’s case only just. They still only give him the lightest entertainment stuff that even the other arts and entertainment reporters don’t bother with.
