As an aside, I also feel his fundraising was the perfect opportunity to highlight this government's shocking treatment of the NHS. Our National Health Service should never have needed charity like that in the first place, but I feel the media in general has failed to pick up on that .

He raised money for "NHS charities together" not the NHS. Two very different things

Fair point. Maybe he wasn’t raising money directly for the NHS but ultimately it was still money being raised to benefit the NHS (From the “NHS Charities Together” website: “Collectively these charities give £1 million every day to the NHS so that people can stay well for longer and get better faster.”) so I think my point still stands, and it’s still a fair criticism of this government and the fact they’ve allowed the NHS to reach a point where it needs such charity.

I think even if Nurses and other NHS workers salaries were doubled overnight, people would still want to do more for them. Charities like ‘league of friends’ branded ones for hospitals have always existed regardless of who’s in power at the time and think people would always want to do a little bit more regardless of how well funded they are at any one given time.

So I think it’s not true to say Captain Tom was only raising money because the government were underfunding the NHS, as I’m sure he’d have done something whatever the situation was.

Just to clarify my position, I was commenting on the GMB music, not the coverage. My post was purely TV presentation-based and I didn’t intend to spark this debate.

I don’t think anyone’s saying he was only raising money because the government are underfunding the NHS, but I think it’s a fair point that the need for charity reflects the fact that the government are underfunding the NHS and I think that’s an ongoing issue and discussion that needs to be had.

Probably not on this forum though Very Happy

May be worth noting that NHS Charites together was originally founded back in 2000 when Labour were in power...

Hearing that 2020 theme tune in the dance video has reminded me what a great theme it was - so fresh. Wonder if there’s a possibility of it being brought back ?

Well. It was given to them specifically by Erron Gordon. So there must be a plan to bring it back at some point.

I originally thought they’d changed back to the other open because it saved them changing the presenter names everytime somebody had to self-isolate etc, but I’d have thought they’d have brought it back by now if they wanted to. Hopefully September when they usually make some sort of change 🤞🏻

I think they used the 2020 version because it allows more creative dance moves at the beginning.

In terms of openers, I liked the 2020 theme, but remember at the beginning of January when the voiceover was chopped and changed and really messy???
If they do return to the theme, I hope that's all that they bring back.
