I know it's not what should dictate your choice in news outlet, but I've found BBC News to be terribly stale and robotic for a long time. If I need to leave a rolling news channel on, I'll default to Sky only because (please forgive me) it's prettier.

It'll never stop bugging me how their graphics put a person's name underneath who they are/what they do though.

I think they're both as bad as bad as each other. If I want rolling news, I'll either go for an international channel or LBC News.

I'm going to add some of mine in but there's a fair bit of crossover:

- The Rhythm and Movement ident set wasn't bad, some of the individual idents were (and I've always liked Skateboarders, Capoeira and Ballet)

- ITV News' strongest branding was 2004, despite it being the death knoll for regional individuality the national package was superb.

- Some of the best BBC News branding in the last 20 years has to be the less known or seen variants, such as WNT from around 2007 with its white background and glass globe, or North West Tonight's excellent 2007 short lived revamp.

- That being said prior to 20 years ago the flags for World/N24 win my vote, the World music as earlier said is the stronger of this bunch but just the vibrancy and diffferent nature of it stands out to me.

- ITV in 2013 (changing from ITV 1, the new logo etc) with colour picking were probably my favourite set of idents and branding since 2006.

Rhythm and Movement suffered from not being a hot air balloon and not being a globe. With hindsight of what followed they're perfectly serviceable idents, for the most part.

ITVs 2019 look was the best it's had as a unified channel.

I also feel that one of the strengths of Rhythm and Movement as a package was that there was a greater range of 'moods' than what came before or after. Sure some idents were a bit naff or the 40-year-old marketing executive's idea of what is trendy, but there are few ident packages which get every one right. In certain respects, such as a consistent musical motif and colour palette, they were far better than the much-applauded Circle idents. I also never understood why Ballet or Tai-Chi were considered inappropriate to introduce the news, despite seeming far more sombre than Capes or Kites which were often used later.

It's such a beautiful piece of music - yet so dramatic. I can't help but feel like this would be perfect for World Service Radio.

I'd personally like David Lowe's old music back on World Service English - they were very catchy and those three notes were a strong sonic logo for the BBC.. I've even found myself whistling them sometimes...
They replaced the TOTH sequence with some generic music I think around 2014, which was a huge downgrade.
"Wherever you are, you're with the BBC" is a much stronger tagline than "This is the BBC World Service, the world's radio station"
Parts of it are still used on some foreign language services.

Maybe there's a slight hint of nostalgia there of when I was younger listening to the World Service, but what they have currently doesn't feel very cohesive. Although you could argue that Newshour not using David Lowe's music defeats my argument a bit, David Arnold's theme was majestic; I've even got it as my ringtone so I'll let it slide Very Happy It's a shame both packages weren't as documented as the ones on television were - I would like to find them in clearer audio one day haha

In terms of TV, I think the Circles were fine, but they were getting rather uninspiring. The 2007 mix was the best version of the BBC News music. I'll admit that I've never really been someone who watches TV, spending most of my time listening to Radio 4/World Service. BBC World 1997 music was lovely but I feel that if it were still being used you'd all be calling it tired, like David Lowe's pips

The HTV/Carlton idents were much better than the actual Carlton idents:
I've seen a lot of critiques claiming the transition is awkward but I always thought it was clever to use the V as the linking device. The animation of the box was neat and bespoke to the style of each ident, and above all the three note melody is perfect for a three syllable name.

I still think it’s quite odd why they made those, and what the real point was, and why they kept the end of the old idents.

On a similar note, the ITV1 2002 idents actually worked well for what the channel was in 2002, but suffered from not being the regions. The 2002 idents made much more sense than the half hearted graphical 2004 set or the initial 2006 set

Remember, Carlton was supposedly the star at the heart of the ITV network.

I liked the 2002 idents. They were fresh for the time. Not sure that celebrity idents would be as effective now.

To be fair, Oneness isn't that bad.
