*chuckle* Creativity really is rampant in the media these days, isn't it?

Can't work, won't work.

Well on Teletext's TV Plus (pg 131 at the mo) they have an article about a new reality programme about celebs in a football team.
Within the article it says that Dawn Airey wants to get rid of the sex on the channel that people always think of, along with the Simpsons.

It then says that the channel is getting rid of it's orange logo in favour of an 'Olive Green' one.

So now I'm having to think of that new sort of a logo with in Olive Green.

The problem with the channels at the moment is the fact that the logos can't really go out of the boundaries that much.
Why they can't keep the text the same and change how it appears, just how Nickelodeon and MTV have managed, i don't know.
Are we to expect this sort of writing for SKYnews? It should be interesting or inconsistent.

I found this, it's from Feb 2003. It says Sky is planning to launch it's third antertainment channel "this year" (or 2003), following in the footsteps of Sky One Mix. I'm not aware of any third entertainment channel by Sky... did it launch or did it all fall apart?

And the new logo - it could grow on me but it's not the best choice. I like the idea of dropping the Sky font on the "one" though, gives it more of it's own personality instead of all the Sky logos being a long line of "drones" that look the same as each other (i.e. the BBC boxed logos).

At present the logo looks daft.

Lets hope its on-air appearence is better recieved.

They're gettin rid of the Simpsons!? That is possibly the most stupid thing they could do. I only ever watch Sky One for the Simpsons!

Will that mean we only have Channel 4 for our source of new episodes? And if so i wonder how far back they will start.

I dont think she will get rid of the Simpsons, but more likely, change the way the channel is percived, so people dont think, oh its just simpsons all the time.

I cant imagine sky one mix, in that style, it looks worse than sky one. And olive green, has some potential.

Trouble is, most people, that's all the channel is about...

That's what gets the viewers. If Sky One lost the Simpsons they would be up a certain creek without the metaphorical paddle.

I know they are buying a couple of things from HBO, and have one of the Murdoch clan making a history documentary, but two programmes do not make a channel.

It is still going to be filled with crap unless Sky turn their hand to making some serious programmes, and given that Sky have been promising this for the past 7 years or so and nothing has appeared, does seem as though it may never happen.

Going by Sky's Sports Rebrand it was actually looking good. Ive never really liked Sky One's presentation. Also - I thought there was a seperate forum for mocks!?

Well the good news then is that they've given up on the stupid idea of getting rid of the Sky One brand alltogether, the bad news is that they might as well have done.

That logo does not read 'Sky One' whichever way you look at it. If anything, it says 'Sky Onc'. And has graphic design taken a new low with not even a vertical bar this time.

Whatever happens though, you can guarantee that this logo will be described as 'cleaner' than the old one.

I could hold out for hope that the logo would be partially made up for with some top notch idents. Sadly, being a product of present day UK graphic design, it will be more of the same crap in use all over British TV at present.

The one thing that never ceases to amaze me about modern graphic design in this country, is that however bad something is (the Sky One 2002 look), it's replacement is always much worse. Perhaps the demise of plastic predicted in the oil running out thread in the lounge will be a good thing for graphic design - 'graphic designers' might actually have to start designing things again, not just typing company names out in a font which allready exists, and then describing that as being 'cleaner' or 'simplified'.

Reminds me of the new VH1 logo where thier 'clever' typography makes it look like VHi

Oh dear, the first draft from the press release looks disappointing, but then again so did SKY PREMIER when it was first introduced in 1998, and that turned out to be a great logo when animated and coupled with very dramatic music.

I don't understand the typeface for "ONC", but no doubt that will become clear next month....unless the Board were on controlled substances when they gave the "tick in the box" for this supposedly expensive re-vamp.

"Olive Green"........Mmmmmm, maybe it could work. They've tried purple (96), yellow (9Cool, white (2000) and orange (2002), but they can't have such a limited pallette that "olive green" was the best choice out of what's available even on a 32-bit home computer graphics package. Confused
