Live TV, especially in primetime, rarely leaves the comfort of the studio nowadays too - apart from the Strictly trips to Blackpool and the arean finals for The X Factor (which are just across the road anyway!) I can't think of the last time an entertainment show did something like Ant and Dec did last night. Yes, it was the same show but the change in location made a massive difference.

In the pantheon of pointless outside broadcasts, that was better than Noel's New York House Party, but not as good as Going Live on a cross-channel ferry which in 1990 was the most incredible thing I'd ever seen on television. The ship was MOVING, as well!

Reminds me of the few times where Live with Regis and Kelly (or maybe it was Kathie Lee Gifford) would broadcast from one of the Disney (which owns the company that produces the show and syndicates it) cruise ships for a week. The show also made trips to the Disney parks as well - but that's a lot easier than a moving ship.

You're too young to have seen the moon landings then ? Cool

Pah, that was in black and white. A MOVING ship!

Ha ! The later landings were in colo(u)r, though the only thing that benefited was the American flag.

South Today presented an edition of their programme from the Southampton to Cowes IOW ferry in motion, I'm not sure why though !

But that didn't feature Ant and Dec. Maybe next year though, but I doubt the atmosphere would be as good as on a cruise ship. Wink

The fault with the vision mixer has been cut out of the ITV2 repeat.

Great show I thought. Good fun and (mostly) very slick.

Although it's a good job Ant was so shaky and did badly at the second game when they did Ant vs Dec - they'd have had a few minutes to fill otherwise. [/cynical]

It reminds me a little bit of when Noel's House Party went to New York. An attempt to keep the format on its toes by changing its setting.

I know this is often cited as an example of the House Party's decline, but I'm sure the New York episode was fairly decent, and it was actually a visit elsewhere in America (possibly LA or Vegas) that rang the death knell for the show? I may be wrong though.

Did they air what should have been the correct footage instead or just edit out the whole sequence?

I was a bit too young to fully know what was going on, but from what I've read, it was around the era where the format was starting to go stale and the changes were a bit too drastic for its own good.

Yes, I'm sure that episode was before it went really bad.

The BBC re-entering the Saturday night arena with Michael McIntyre's Big Show in a couple of weeks time. It's their best shot of a light entertainment Saturday night hit but I don't hold out too much hope.
