At the moment the building is not in heavy use, so once more staff move in, it should look like more of a hive of activity.
And as for the arguing about opinions. Once it is in use on screen then you will have a better idea of how it feels and looks. So far, I think the lack of colour is a little dull. And with a Red and White logo, with a majority of white in the on-screen graphics, it could seem a bit bland, with some issues in making straps and captions stand out.
The Cube will come into use soon, but AFAIK a full move to the new building is not until next year. And at some point the Millbank studio will need to be brought into line with the new style.
I wonder if advertising is another issue why streaming is different depending on the platform? One of the oddities of TV Player Plus is that if I watch a pay tv channel on the desktop, I get the Irish feed, yet if I watch via Amazon Fire, it's the UK feed.
An interesting nugget at the 8-minute mark in this talk by a guy from Sky News at a recent radio conference:
Looks like an earlier design for the new studio, with a different desk and floor, some design features on and in front of the glass, an LED ticker above the big staircase, and a screen and Sky news logo to the left of the atrium.
I hope they install some of those blue panels across the various levels of the building. A little bit of colour to break up the monotony of the "backdrop".
That desk would have certainly been a better choice IMO.
But it doesn't have the same flexibility as the one they've installed in terms of being raised and lowered.
Watching that NextRadio video, he seems to hint that they want to refresh the presentation to make it more relaxed. I also liked the piece about that TV news studio being built around the radio station in the clip he showed.
I've gone on like a stuck record for years that news channels will eventually evolve to be much more relaxed on screen and less stiff and stilted, much like Franceinfo have shown and now Sky News are moving towards. Increasingly the BBC News channel have been doing the same with the Victoria Derbyshire programme (which was clearly inspired by Sky News' Afternoon Live with Kay Burley) and Outside Source.
