As I said on the other thread, what's wrong with saving BBC2 some budget by filling 4 or 5 hours very cheaply with Eurovision semi finals?

Live or recorded shiny floor shows are far from cheap and that's before you pay for all the production costs involved in producing that amount of artists and songs.

I hope it does go to BBC2, and would support the fresh approach the BBC are taking this year.

BBC3 wont be closed until late this year at the earliest. The Trust have to discuss and agree before the executive can proceed. ESC SFs for 2014 are safe.

BBC Three won't be closed till 2015 now. But still no announcement over whether the semis will be broadcast on there.

If I am right, the Big Five HAVE to vote in at one or the other SF as allocated. So they will HAVE to show one on linear TV. Who's doing this years? One assumes Scott Mills offtube but who will his sidekick be?

It was Ana Matronic that was in Malmo last year for the Semi Finals, and she'll be back this year as well...

I'm still unsure on whether the semis will be on BBC Three though? For some reason, I'm still doubting it.

If BBC3 does go the semi finals would sit well enough on BBC2 or even BBC4 - or even BBC1. They'd probably rate quite well and UK viewers are vote to event TV playing out over a week. I don't think ratings for the final would be too adversly affected - IIRC it's usually the voting which rates best anyway.

I watched the semis via RTE last couple of years after the dogs dinner BBC3 made of 2011. Is she any good? Scott Mills was dire.

I'd be up for BBC1 semis. If we're going to reposition the perception of Eurovision making a proper event of Eurovision Week is a start.

Although if they're really as skint as they say they are they don't need to send anyone out to Malmo and just show the actual interval acts rather than the crap filler instead.

Nah she was pretty dire as well, and her American accent grated on me big style...

Scott wasn't off tube last year - he was there on camera for BBC Three, and was then back in the UK to act as voting spokesperson on Saturday..

I think Scott was only off tube for Dusseldorf (which ironically was a blessing because there was a catastrophic local talkback failure which took out most local commentator circuits)

Paddy was always on-site when he commentated.
