Sky News 2015 new look

That music is absolutely awful.

It's the old TOTH music and an old Sky news piece mashed together, and it sounds like two totally different pieces of music.

I like the new presentation overall, but the TOTH is awful.

They seemed to abandon decision time music as well completely after the exit poll was revealed.

Lower thirds look interesting.

We also saw a breaking news sting just a few minutes ago, which was yellow - maybe we'll finally have yellow as the colour for the breaking news strap as well as the ticker.

Fantastic coverage from Sky News overnight. Flicked around a little bit but they were leagues ahead of the BBC and ITV in terms of presentation.

Agreed but not just presentation but also the amount of declarations covered. Like most self respecting TV Forumers I was naturally flicking between the big 3 and Sky Arts. It seemed that most of the declarations being covered by Sky was just being ignored by the other 2. ITV being largely in the Opinion Room and the BBC either with Vine, Neil or Raworth. Watching the Sky Arts coverage there were a few times when the Sky editor commented that he was surprised that the others quite often cut away from (mainly loosing) speeches from heavyweights.


I found their approach of letting the declarations tell most of the story and splitting the presenting around the different counts worked really well and I found it much more engaging than the BBC who always seemed to be having some technical difficulty no matter when I tuned in.

You can tell they've spent time developing the new graphics to work to their needs as opposed to the BBC who just tried to fit too much information into their usual template which came across as a bizarre combination of being cluttered but also missing some useful information such as how many seats were left to declare as mentioned before.

Of course the new pres and Sky Arts coverage were an added bonus but really top marks to Sky IMO.

Saw the new top of the hour again, every time I see it, it gets worse.

The way the previous TOTH cuts into the new music just sounds like two tunes shoved together, rather than one piece.

The visuals of the ipad, website and phone are weird as well, especially since they have a blank space where the logo is in the actual versions?

Graphics fantastic, music is the worst in the history of sky news.

They should use the decision time music in the new shorter version which was timed to fit the new TOTH and when the election is finished use something else, not the current one.

That picture answers the question as to why the ticker runs off past the clock and the live location has the red bar going off the screen.

I know its a bit early to comment but my initial thoughts after watching since 9pm and based on just the above pic the lower thirds look awful to me. They are going from being able to have

to what looks like 2 or 3 small boxes for text which will either have to be squished, have different font sizes like you see on the vidiprinter or be restricted to what can be put in them. I'm going to guess that usually it would consist of the SYRIA ATTACKS : then a 1 or 2 line text taking up the rest of the screen depending on how much text there is - when showing a map it gets shrunk into the smaller 3rd box - might be hard to read on a smaller screen. I'm just hoping the 3 box set up is not a new thing like

Also not a fan of the live and breaking news transitions they just seem a bit boring and don't really get your attention in the same way a flying block coming towards you did. I'm going to miss those.


TOTH best to not say anything at all - I've only seen it twice and it doesn't seem to consist of much compared to the last 1. fingers crossed its a decision time only TOTH to be replaced at 5pm with something much better

Every refresh seems to result in a smaller and smaller ticker too. its ok on my tv but good luck from a distance or a smaller screen such as an iPhone its pretty hard to read

Music - can't decide if its good or not, it sounds like the previous 1 with another track playing over it. As for the decision time music I love that but it was only used twice, Can someone at Sky upload that to YouTube?

As for the election graphics they are very nice. I like that with sky the vidiprinter keeps the results on screen for a while when other channels flash a result up and its gone in 5 seconds never to be seen again.

Business graphics looks a lot bigger and boring than the previous ones with nothing going on behind the flat white background. I hope we have not lost the London skyline for Ian king live. If we have can someone at sky news upload the background to YouTube please with a few of the other old backgrounds.

A final thought sky are always innovative with their graphics and they never go back to what they had before so I best get used to them if they are going to be around for the next 5 years.

The decision time music was actually remixed for this election so it fits in with the new shorter TOTH graphics, the version used was shorter than the one used in 2010, the bit just before the end of the loop was cut out, but the very end was still played. You only got the full version for the exit poll closing, but even that cut out after about 10 seconds of Adam speaking. It should have been used for every TOTH since it really fits the election well. But it's the first time they used it since the last election, since they abandoned it for the local elections and EU elections.

You say they never go back to what they had before, but the new TOTH second half music is a really old Sky News piece, it just sounds really dated, the TOTH sounds fine, but it's totally flat when it changes form the music used since the last revamp to the 2005 ones and is very underwhelming.

I like the new graphics, but the music is poor and I too have worries of the new straps, since the text on the right hand side is going to be far more concise than before.

I wonder what time we'll see the new straps appear? I think it was 5pm last election when the election graphics changed back to standard (but new) ones.

The pictures look a little ugly, to be honest, but I'm keen to see how they work in practice. They're certainly a departure.

Well... they've just reverted back to the old music for the financial report. So we shall see!

That's good because that old track cuts off in time with the end of the business update, the new 1 just abruptly stops
